A note to get us started
Hey neighbors, I'm Max Jones, and I live right here in Copperleaf, over on Crescent. My family and I moved to the neighborhood in 2018, but my wife Ashley is a Bluejay and graduated from Liberty HS. We host the annual Easter egg hunt at the clubhouse each spring, and I'm the admin for our neighborhood Facebook group.
I started the Copperleaf Connection to connect with neighbors and bring a little good mojo to the community. The idea is simple: pull our Facebook page, the HOA, and the local news & information we actually care about into one place every month. That includes a market update so we can all keep a finger on the pulse of the values in the neighborhood, plus events, local spots, and the small wins worth celebrating.

Your 4th of July weekend in Copperleaf & Liberty
The Fourth of July weekend is almost here, and you don't have to go far. A few things to put on the calendar, starting right here in the neighborhood:
🎉 Copperleaf 4th of July Parade, Saturday, July 4Our own neighborhood tradition is back. Meet at the Copperleaf Clubhouse at 9:30 a.m. and roll out together. Decorate your trikes, bikes, four-wheelers, golf carts, kids, and pets, the more red, white, and blue the better. RSVP on NextDoor, and please pass the word to neighbors who aren't on social media. Thanks to Sarah Washington for putting it together.
The Northland's big one is right up the road at the CapFed Sports Complex (2200 Old 210 Hwy, Liberty). Gates and activities run 6:00 to 10:30 p.m., with live music from Lost Wax 8 to 10 and fireworks at about 10 p.m. Free to attend; expect food trucks, a beer garden, and kids' activities like face painting and inflatables. Parking is a $10 pass purchased ahead. Grab one at thelibertyfest.com. Leave the pets, grills, and personal fireworks at home.
Something special this year: for the nation's 250th birthday, downtown Liberty is hosting a one-time parade and block party (100 N. Main St). The parade steps off at 10 a.m. down Kansas Street, with kids' activities, treats, a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon, and the unveiling of a new "Great American" statue right after. The historic downtown farmers market opens at 8 a.m., and the celebration wraps around 1 p.m.

The Copperleaf market report
Here's exactly where the neighborhood stands as of late June, straight from Heartland MLS:

The takeaway: Copperleaf is tight and moving. Two of the homes on the market are already under contract, and a coming-soon listing is about to land near $649,900. Over the last 90 days just one home changed hands, a six-bedroom on NE 89th that closed at $825,000, the upper end of the neighborhood. In an established community of around 400 homes, that kind of low turnover is exactly why well-kept Copperleaf homes tend to hold their value.
A little context
Copperleaf was built out by a roster of quality local builders, NewMark Homes, Homes by Chris, MBW, Fish Creek, McFarland, Olympus, and James Engel among them, which is part of why the streetscape feels so consistent. Most homes here are reverse-1.5-story or story-and-a-half plans with the primary suite on the main level.

This month around the Copperleaf group
A few of the good-news moments neighbors shared in our Facebook group this month:
- A summer hustle. Max's son Leo started washing trash bins for $30, with pickup, a driveway rinse, and return included. A very Copperleaf kind of useful.
- Reunited. When sweet Marley turned up, Amanda helped track down her family, one more reminder that the group works best when neighbors keep an eye out.
- A timely assist. Andrew offered lawn-mowing help right as the summer growth took off, simple help at exactly the right time.
- A second life for gear. Shannon put out a friendly ask for right-handed golf club sets for her daughters, the kind of small swap our neighborhood is great at.

At the pool & clubhouse
The community pool is open for the season. Here's the quick rundown so your summer afternoons go smoothly:
Pool hours & the new fobs
Open 9 a.m. to sunset, weather permitting (it closes during storms). New this year: the old access cards were retired in favor of key fobs, and the pool got a fresh coat of paint plus new security around the clubhouse. If you missed the spring fob exchange, email info@kccopperleaf.com to arrange yours.
Good to know
Guests are welcome with a resident. Glass stays outside the fence. Children under 12 need an adult with them, and kids under 14 head home by 8 p.m. unless they're with a grown-up. Pool questions go to pool@kccopperleaf.com.

Living in Copperleaf: a neighbor's guide to the area
One of the best things about Copperleaf is how much sits within a few minutes of Flintlock. After two decades around here, these are the spots I actually point people to:
🍽️ Where to eat
The Landing has been a reliable local pub forever, and Three Halves Brewing on the Square is a fun stop for a local pour. The Corner Cafe and Homegrown are my go-to for breakfast, but I hear the Urban Egg just opened. Meddy's, Longboards, and Red Door are easy wins for lunch or brunch. If you're looking for an amazing dinner date night, Osteria Bianchi is tough to beat. Of course, you're always a short hop from the Chick-fil-A and the rest of the Liberty Triangle lineup.
🛒 Where to shop
You can practically walk to the Super Target at Flintlock & 152, with Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Hy-Vee, Price Chopper, Sam's, Aldi, and Sprouts all close by. A Total Wine membership is a must-have. For something local, Crowley Furniture over in the Liberty Triangle is locally owned and worth the stop.
⛳ Where to play
Three public golf courses sit nearby, Shoal Creek (gorgeous, just past Woodneath), Hodge Park, and Staley Farms. Hodge Park is a whole afternoon on its own: miles of trails, an amphitheater, ballfields, even a small herd of buffalo and a historic town. For the kids, the all-turf CapFed Sports Complex, B&B Theatres by the high school, and the Above All trampoline park behind the neighborhood keep weekends busy. I recently joined the Back 9 golf simulator private club to stay entertained during inclement weather.
What's new around Liberty
New to eat and drink
A few fresh options if you're switching up date night. Costa Vida has opened in Liberty, and I still need to try the 34 South Main Cocktail Lounge.
And here's a fun one to watch: the old Cheddars site is being redeveloped into Five Four, 54th Street's new restaurant-and-entertainment concept, complete with pickleball courts and golf simulators. It's a bigger build (planned for 2027), but a great addition coming right to the neighborhood's doorstep.
Support local, support each other
One of the perks of a neighborhood like ours is how many talented people live a few doors down. So we're starting a free spotlight for Copperleaf residents who own a business. No charge, ever, just neighbors helping neighbors.
A few already on our radar: BC Hardscapes, a longtime, family-owned outdoor living and retaining-wall company whose owner calls Copperleaf home. And the owners of local Liberty businesses Thomann Financial Services and Lakebrink Dental both live in our neighborhood as well.

The back-to-school countdown is on
Hard to believe, but the first day of school for Liberty Public Schools is Tuesday, August 25, so enjoy these last few weeks of summer. Copperleaf kids head to Shoal Creek Elementary (right across Flintlock), then Discovery Middle, and on to Liberty High, home of the Blue Jays. Calendars, supply lists, and bus routes go up at lps53.org as the date gets closer.
What the board's been up to
A quick, friendly nod to the volunteers who keep the neighborhood running. This season the board brought on a new landscaping contractor for the common areas and entrances, completed pool valve repairs and the freshly painted pool, rolled out the new fob access system, and shared a couple of safety reminders alongside the Shoal Creek Patrol.

A neighborly thank-you
A big thank-you to our HOA board this spring. They got the pool ready for the 2026 season with some welcome repairs and upgrades, handed out new pool keys, and were genuinely generous with their time, staffing the clubhouse over several evenings so the key swap was quick and easy. A special shout-out to Barbara Johnson and Karen Williams for keeping everyone in the loop. Thank you all for the work you do for our neighborhood.
It's the kind of behind-the-scenes effort that's easy to miss but makes Copperleaf the place it is. If you see a board member around the pool this summer, tell them thanks.
